Simon, 17, from a low-income, non-English speaking family, was charged with two assaults after an incident he regretted. Though Police recommended diversion, his case was wrongly listed in the Magistrates’ Court. A school lawyer intervened, had one charge dropped, and secured a fast-tracked diversion in the Children’s Court. The plan was approved, avoiding a criminal record.
Thanks to timely legal help, Simon completed his VCE successfully and gained university entry.
