Support for survivor through tenancy dispute

December 01, 2025

Amy, a family violence survivor, was held liable for $5,106 in lease break fees and property damage caused by her abusive ex-partner, despite notifying the agent and paying the full bond.

With support from PCLC’s TAAP program, Amy filed a cross-application under the Residential Tenancies Act, provided evidence, and successfully argued her case at VCAT. The Tribunal awarded her nearly the full bond and dismissed other claims, recognising the impact of family violence and holding the perpetrator accountable.
