Fines relief for Leon

December 01, 2025

Leon endured six years of family violence and eventually left the family home with his children after being granted sole parental responsibility for them. Leon’s mental health was subsequently worsening, and this resulted him losing his job and then his rental property after falling into arrears.

While living in a tent, he incurred $2,500 in fines. After building trust, he disclosed the abuse, enabling a successful Family Violence Scheme application to be made. All fines were withdrawn, and Leon now has stable housing.

His case highlights the importance of trust and addressing stigma in accessing support.
